People, Place, and Time

Telling my family's stories

Kenelm Winslow

Kenelm (Old English for ‘king’s helm’) Winslow was born April 29, 1599 in Droitwich, Worcester, England, the son of Edward Winslow and Magdalene Oliver. Growing up there, he was trained as a furniture maker (a ‘joiner’). He came to the Plymouth Colony around 1631, along with his brother Josiah, and after his more famous brothers Edward and John. He was the first furniture maker in the North America, and died in Salem on September 13, 1672.

Descent for the Ritenours goes: Kenelm Winslow > Kenelm Winslow > Maj. Edward Winslow > Lydia Winslow > Mary Foster > Mary Paige > Elizabeth Fay > Dennis Fay Batchellor > Mary Elizabeth Batchellor > Emma Jane Lashelle > Minnie Mae Oberheim > Earl Ritenour > etc.
