Deacon James Fay, with 5 others, was denounced as a Tory because he could not be satisfied that it was right to take up arms against the King of England. The New England Chronicle Aug 7, 1775 published an indictment against Fay, where he was voted to be shunned and treated with contempt and neglect, and not allowed to leave town.
