Telling my family's stories

This is the document given to Thomas Benton Ritenour (b. 1845, d. 10/30/1896), William Henry Ritenour’s younger brother, while serving in the confederate army in Virginia. The document is written by the legendary commander Turner Ashby, a dashing calvary commander nicknamed ‘The Black Knight of the Confederacy.’ This company, like William Henry’s militia regiment, was under the ultimate command of Stonewall Jackson, and participated in the Valley Campaign in Shenandoah.
