Batchellor Death Certificate

Mary Elizabeth (Batchellor) Lashell, wife of William Craig Lashell, died of Typhoid fever on March 16, 1880 in Woodland township of Carroll County, Illinois. The illness lasted 8 days. She was 53 years old. This is a snip from her death certificate.

Typhoid fever is caused by a strain of salmonella, usually spread by poor sanitation, and was quite common in the 19th century in the United States. These days, it’s more common in the so-called ‘developing world.’ Having had Typhoid fever myself, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Dennis Fay Batchelor > Mary Elizabeth > Emma Jane Lashell > Minnie Mae Oberheim > Earl Ritenour > Elmer > etc.
